Feeling 22: DeWalt Named Sun Belt Setter of the Week for 22nd time
TXST Release:
SAN MARCOS, TX — Yes, Taylor Swift, Emily DeWalt is feeling 22, too, after the Sun Belt Conference announced Tuesday morning the Texas State setter has earned her 22nd career Sun Belt Setter of the Week honor.
Tuesday’s recognition marks the fourth time this season the Helotes, Texas native has picked up the award after doing so during the first, third, fourth and now sixth week of the season.
“Emily has consistently put-up numbers to be setter of the week every week of the season and that speaks volumes about her ability to get our offense going,” said Texas State volleyball head coach Sean Huiet. “As a team, we are fourth in the nation in hitting percentage with her running the show. It’s nice that our hitters are producing the kills with efficiency to help her out. I’m so proud of her.”
This week’s honor comes after DeWalt helped Texas State to a split against then-East Division leading James Madison over the weekend. In nine sets played against the Dukes, she was credited with a league-high 112 assists and averaged 12.44 assists per set. The 112 total assists marked the most assists in a two-match span for DeWalt during her career.
Throughout the weekend, DeWalt directed a Texas State offense that finished with a Sun Belt-leading 15.67 kills per set and a league-here 141 total kills on a .330 attack percentage.
In the opening match against James Madison, DeWalt finished with her 74th career double-double as the graduate student went for 60 assists and 14 digs in a five-set match. The following afternoon, she added 52 assists and five digs to her weekend total in the Bobcats’ four-set win over the Dukes.
In addition to her setting numbers, DeWalt added 19 digs, eight kills and four block assists to her weekend statistics.
Texas State (11-5, 3-1) will look to continue its winning ways against quality opponents when the Bobcats travel to Lafayette, La., later this weekend for a two-match series at Louisiana (9-4, 3-1) beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7.
