SAN MARCOS, TX — With nine student-athletes set to exhaust their collegiate eligibility at the conclusion of this volleyball season, Texas State volleyball head coach
Sean Huiet started the process of filling those voids by signing outside hitter Brooke Bentke and middle blocker Zenai Jethroe as part of the Bobcats' latest signing class.
"I'm excited about this 2023 signing class and what they will bring to our program," Huiet said. "We wanted to find competitors who could get on the court early in their careers and both Brooke and Zenari are just that."
Brooke Bentke | 6'2" | Outside Hitter | Brenham, Texas
Bentke, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter, recently became the career kills leader at Brenham High School, where she also plays beach volleyball … a three-time academic all-district selection heading into her senior year … National Honor Society member … AP Scholar … Distinguished Honor Roll selection … will graduate in the top two percent of her class … a member of the Houston Skyline 18 Royal club volleyball organization … a frequent member of being on a successful club volleyball team as she's finished in the top 25 in the country at three different levels and had three top four open qualifier finishes … selected to the AVCA All-American Watch List as a senior … 5A GHVCA Preseason Player of the Year … AVCA All-American Honorable Mention as a junior … selected as a AVCA Phenom twice …
"Brooke is a 6 rotation outside that can pass, play defense and terminate at a high level. I love how she plays the game, and her volleyball IQ is very high. Brooke recently took over the top spot for career kills at Brenham High School, passing former Bobcats Jess and Kelsey Weynand. She has all the tools to be an all-conference outside hitter for us."
Zenai Jethroe| 6'1" | Middle Blocker | Mansfield, Texas
Jethroe is a 6-foot-1, middle blocker out of Mansfield, Texas by way of Ranchview High School … selected as the EXOSShowcase Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Showcase … first-team all-district and an area champion … a member of the Drive Nation 18 Black club organization, which finished second at the 2022 MEQ Nationals … also participated in track and field … an A & B honor roll receipt and will graduate in the top 10 percent of her senior class
"Zenai is going to be one of the most physical middles we have had in our program. She has protential to be an elite blocker, but also a middle that can terminate and score points. Once she learns our system, I expect big things from her. Bobcat fans will love her energy and competitive attitude," – Texas State volleyball head coach
