WBB Press Release for tomorrow's home game vs. Louisiana:
SAN MARCOS, TX — The Texas State women's basketball program will look to extend its current three-game winning streak to a season-high four-game winning span when the Bobcats play host to Louisiana on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
Thursday night's game against Louisiana will mark the first "Bobcats Fight Breast Cancer" game for Texas State women's basketball since Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, when the Bobcats knocked off UTA, 72-55. Last year's scheduled breast cancer awareness game against Arkansas State was canceled due to a snow and ice storm that impacted the whole state of Texas.
Brant Freeman and Suzanne Fox will call the game's action on ESPN+.
LOOKING AT THE BOBCATS
Under head coach Zenarae Antoine, Texas State is 7-2 all-time in "Bobcats Fight Breast Cancer" games. The Bobcats have won their last four consecutive games when raising awareness to breast cancer. TXST is also 1-1 all-time against Louisiana in such games.
Thursday night's basketball contest will pit two of the four active winningest head coaches — in terms of conference wins — in Sun Belt Conference history against each other. With five wins in league play this season, Louisiana's Garry Brodhead has earned 87 career Sun Belt Conference wins, which is good enough for the third-most conference wins among active women's basketball head coaches. Texas State's Zenarae Antoine, with her six league wins this season, now has 83 wins in Sun Belt Conference play, which is fourth among active league coaches.
When she appeared on the court during Thursday night's game, Texas State senior forward Da'Nasia Hood will have appeared in 100 career games for the Bobcats. Hood will join senior guard Kennedy Taylor (104) as the only active Bobcat women's basketball student-athletes to appear in 100-or-more career games.
SCOUTING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Last time out, Louisiana (13-5, 5-3) knocked off Arkansas State, 68-57, behind a quartet of student-athletes in double figures: Ty'Reona Doucet (17), Tamera Johnson (12), Makayia Hallmon (11) and Lanay Wheaton (10). Doucet, in addition to her game-high 17 points, also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to record her sixth straight double-double and eight on the season.
Louisiana travels to San Marcos for Thursday night's game leading the Sun Belt Conference with a 45.6 field goal percentage through this point of the 2021-22 season. The Ragin' Cajuns' percentage is also good enough for the 18th-highest mark in the nation. Outside the arc, Louisiana is shooting 29.0 percent, which ranks fourth in the league.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday night's game will mark the 11th all-time meeting between Texas and Louisiana in San Marcos, where the Ragin' Cajuns have a 6-4 all-time edge against the Bobcats. Texas State is looking for its first win over Louisiana in San Marcos since winning, 71-63, on Jan. 1, 2021, when Lauryn Thompson (25) and Da'Nasia Hood (23) both finished with 20-or-more points.
Louisiana enters this week's game on a four-game winning streak in the series, which is the longest by either team throughout the series history. Texas State previously held the longest winning streak when it won three games throughout 2018-19.
