Women's basketball adds Jefferson to the program

SAN MARCOS, TX —
Timia Jefferson has signed with the Texas State women's basketball program, head coach Zenarae Antoine announced Thursday afternoon.

Jefferson, a 5-foot-9 guard out of Mansfield, Texas by way of Mansfield Timberview, joins the Bobcats following a three-year career at Houston Baptist, where she was named the Southland Conference's Player of the Year as a junior en route to helping the Huskies earn its first-ever Southland Conference Championship during the 2021-22 season.

Additionally, Jefferson was a two-time Dave Campbell's All-Texas selection following her sophomore and junior seasons.

"Timia is a welcome addition to our program," Antoine said. "She rounds out this 2022 signing class with an exclamation mark! She is a true scholar student-athlete by garnering both Southland All-Conference academic and athletic honors. It is no easy feat to be a league's player of the year and academic all-conference in the same season."
During her time at Houston Baptist, Jefferson was a two-time all-conference performer both in the classroom and on the court in addition to her league's player of the year award. She appeared in 72 career games throughout three seasons as a Huskie while earning a starting assignment in 62, including 21 as a true freshman throughout the 2019-20 campaign.

As a junior in 2021-22, Jefferson scored 10-or-more points in 16 of 24 games. She went for 20-or-more on four different occasions, including a career-high 28 points against McNeese on Jan. 15, 2022. She also set a program record by converting all 13 free throw attempts in just 27 minutes of game action against Hartford on Nov. 18, 2021, en route to being named the league's player of the week for her effort. Jefferson was also credited with at least one steal in 18 games last season.

Jefferson also scored 12 points, credited with four assists, brought down three rebounds and credited with two steals in 37 minutes against a 27-win Toledo women's basketball team during a first-round Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) game on March 18, 2022.

During the 2020-21 season, Jefferson scored in double figures in 21 consecutive contests, including a 22-point performance in 34 minutes against Texas Tech on Nov. 28, 2020. She also netted 28 points against Nicholls on Jan. 30, 2021. In 19 games as a sophomore, Jefferson was credited with at least one assist. And, of those, 19 games, 13 featured multiple assists, including a season-high six against McNeese on March 10, 2021.

Jefferson made an immediate impact for the Huskies, which won 35 games in three seasons during her time with the program, as a true freshman in 2019-20. Her 27.1 minutes per game and 10.3 points per game marks were the second highest on the team. She scored in double digits in 13 of 26 games, including a season-high 27 points against Nicholls on Jan. 22, 2020, and a 22-point outing against Southeastern Louisiana on Dec. 21, 2019.

Prior to her arrival to Houston Baptist, Jefferson played club basketball for the Lady Jets Elite under former National Basketball Association (NBA) standout Jason Terry.

"Timia is a dynamic scoring guard and an elite defender," Terry said. "Her work ethic and competitive fire impacts winning."

Jefferson was a four-year starter throughout her prep career, including at Mansfield Timberview where she played her senior year under head coach Kit Kyle Martin.

"Texas State is getting another Timberview graduate, who can go!" Martin said. "Timia can torch you from the perimeter and attack off the bounce to score or distribute the rock. She will sacrifice for the team, and she comes to put in work every day."
