From Football Field to Corporate Leader: Dameon Williams’ Journey from Texas State to Memorial Hermann and Entrepreneurship

Dameon Williams, a former All-Conference wide receiver and kick returner at Texas State University, has built a career as an entrepreneur and healthcare administrator at Memorial Hermann, where he has worked for 13 years.

Williams graduated from Texas State in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise sports science. In 2017, he earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in healthcare administration and management from Southern New Hampshire University. He began his professional career as a file clerk in the credentialing department at Memorial Hermann and has since advanced to become a manager within the Value Management Office. His rise from entry-level positions to a leadership role exemplifies his character and work ethic, stemming from his time as a walk-on at Texas State.

“I worked my way onto the field,” Williams said. “Going from the scout team when I first arrived to becoming a starter was a big accomplishment for me.”

Williams was named a starter during the 2005 season, a historic run for the Bobcats and his senior season. He values the connections and experiences he gained with his teammates at Texas State.

“That 2005 team was amazing,” Williams said. “The camaraderie in the locker room was great; the memories with my wide receiver brothers, the conference championship, and the stadium atmosphere during the playoffs were the most fun part.”

Upon completing college, Williams initially considered a career in teaching and coaching, obtaining his teaching certificate in 2008 amid the recession. The challenging economic conditions prompted a shift in his career path, leading him to begin as a file clerk in the credentialing department at Memorial Hermann, marking the start of his long-term career with the organization.

Williams now serves as a manager within the Value Management Office, a position he earned through consistent effort over 13 years. He credits his time at Texas State and Coach Travis Bush for teaching him mental resilience, which helped him secure a leadership position.

“He was really instrumental in building that ‘dog’ in me,” Williams said. “Coach Bush helped me establish the confidence and mental toughness to get to the field and maintain at a high-pressure level, which translated into my corporate career.”

Throughout his gradual rise at Memorial Hermann—from file clerk to credentialing coordinator, then to system coordinator, project manager, senior project manager, and finally to manager of the Value Management Office—Williams has felt a similar sense of excitement and responsibility as he did on the football field.

“In credentialing, I got to the point where I was entrusted with major responsibilities, including dealing with audits from the state and health departments,” Williams said. “During audits, I experienced the same rush of excitement that I had while playing football.”

In his current role, Williams’ department is integral in advancing key organizational initiatives and managing multimillion-dollar projects. His team focuses on project management, process improvement, and strategic plan implementation, contributing significantly to Memorial Hermann’s success.

“We lead a team of internal healthcare consultants focusing on project management and process improvement,” Williams said. “We work primarily with executives and operational leaders to implement strategic initiatives that support operational growth and efficiencies.”

“We have an invisible hand in many of the large initiatives at Memorial Hermann,” he said. “We drive projects forward that help improve the patient experience.”

In addition to his healthcare career, Williams is an entrepreneur. He previously ran a prominent photo booth company in Katy, Texas, which he recently sold. He also operated a multi-partner LLC investment company, focusing on real estate and pre-IPO investments. Additionally, Williams provides small business consulting, utilizing his MBA expertise.

Williams’ progression from a scout team member to an All-Conference wide receiver at Texas State University has laid the foundation for his achievements in corporate America. His career path reflects a commitment to advancing through hard work and perseverance. Currently, Williams serves as a manager within the Value Management Office at Memorial Hermann, where he continues to find fulfillment in his work, drawing parallels to his experiences on the football field.

As a husband and father of two daughters, Williams is motivated by his family to pursue additional ventures, including entrepreneurship, with the goal of establishing a lasting legacy for them.
