Press Release: Softball announces 2022 spring schedule

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas State University softball head coach Ricci Woodard has announced the full slate of games for the upcoming 2022 campaign.

The 54-game slate will begin on Feb. 12 when Texas State travels to New Mexico State University to play New Mexico, Bradley and NMSU. The first home game of the season will occur on Feb. 17 when the Bobcats host the Oregon Ducks.

The schedule will feature 10 softball programs (Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oregon, Texas, Baylor, South Alabama, Troy, Arizona, Louisiana, Arizona State) which made appearances in the 2021 Division I Softball Tournament. Additionally, Oklahoma and Arizona were two of the eight programs to reach last season’s Women’s College World Series with the Sooners eventually winning last season’s Division I Softball National Championship.

“This might be the toughest schedule we have ever had,” said Woodard. “The non-conference tournaments turned out to be great competition that will really test us early. This schedule is packed throughout with NCAA Regional teams out of the Power 5. I’m super excited to watch this group navigate this competition this spring.”

Sun Belt Conference play opens at home against Appalachian State March 11-13.

The Bobcats mid-week contests include Oregon (Feb. 17), UIW (Feb. 23), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (March 2), Texas A&M (March 9), Baylor (March 16, April 12)), Texas (March 23), UTSA (March 30, April 19) and Sam Houston State (April 7).

Sun Belt series will include Appalachian State (March 11-13), Louisiana (April 1-3), Georgia State (April 14-16) and Troy (April 29-May 1).

Texas State will be on the road for Sun Belt series at South Alabama (March 18-20), Coastal Carolina (March 25-27), ULM (April 8-10), Georgia Southern (April 22-24) and UTA (May 5-7).

Ticket information for the upcoming Texas State softball season will be announced at a later date.
