This is the Maroon & Golden Power Rankings for the 12 Texas FBS teams. We will update this throughout the season as we learn more about each team in 2019. This ranking is a purely subjective ranking based on how each team is trending and who we think is better than the next.
Texas – Bye week
SMU – SMU is back! They continue to impress and are now 5-0 and ranked in the top 25 of the AP Poll. Coming in at #24, they are one spot ahead of A&M now. This is the first time SMU has been ranked since the NCAA death penalty in 1987 and the Mustangs look legit. SMU defeated USF to stay undefeated this week and will face Tulsa at home next. Final Score: 48-21
Texas A&M – A&M did get a win this weekend, but they didn’t look great against an Arkansas team that finished last place in the SEC last year and is currently in last place for this season. A&M is now just 3-2 and doesn’t look like a major contender in their conference or on the national stage. Final Score: 31-27
Baylor – Baylor is still undefeated and just picked up their most meaningful win of the season thus far. Prior to this win, they have only faced FCS SFA, UTSA, and Rice. This week they got an in conference win against a good Iowa State team. Final Score: 23-21
TCU – TCU is 3-1 with their only loss being to SMU. This week, they got their first Big12 win of the season against Kansas. Final Score: 51-14
Texas Tech – Texas Tech faced #6 Oklahoma and the outcome was as expected. Oklahoma didn’t have much trouble running the score up on Tech for a blowout win. Final Score: 55-16
University of Houston – UH had an instate matchup against UNT this week, which makes the order to put these 2 in very easy. UH didn’t have any trouble pulling away from UNT despite the personnel controversy they are currently experiencing with D’Eriq King choosing to sit out the rest of the season and redshirt. Final Score: 46-25
University of North Texas – As mentioned above, UNT fell to UH in a game that really wasn’t that close. Final Score: 46-25
Texas State – Texas State got their 2nd win of the season. This one came against an FCS opponent, Nicholls State. It was a brief revival of an old rivalry, The Battle for the Paddle. The Bobcats won this round and improved to 2-3 on the season. Final Score: 24-3
Rice – Rice was so close to getting that first win of the season against La Tech. They went to overtime tied at 17, but unfortunately La Tech scored a TD in OT while Rice was only able to muster a FG. Final Score: 23-20
UTSA – Bye Week
UTEP – UTEP lost another one this weekend. This time it was an in conference game against Southern Miss. USM took an early lead and never looked back. Final Score: 31-13
