This is the Maroon & Golden Power Rankings for the 12 Texas FBS teams. We will update this throughout the season as we learn more about each team in 2019. This ranking is a purely subjective ranking based on how each team is trending and who we think is better than the next.
Texas –Â Texas required a last minute field goal from Dicker the Kicker to beat Kansas, but remains at the top of our list for now considering the strength of the schedule and strength of their record. SMU is closing in on the top spot though. Final Score: 50-48
SMU – SMU continues to roll with their win over Temple. The strength of schedule argument that sunk UCF’s playoff chances in 2017 and 2018 is the only thing holding them back at this point. Final Score: 45-21
Baylor – Baylor also remained undefeated with a win over OSU. SMU and Baylor may be interchangeable at this point and it’s going to be interesting to see which one flinches first. Final Score: 45-37
Texas A&M – A&M rebounded after their loss to #1 Alabama with a win against Ole Miss. Final Score: 24-17
Texas Tech – Tech lost to ISU after falling behind 20-0 to open the game. Tech managed to fight back to make the final score look more respectable. Final Score: 34-24
TCU – Lost to Kansas State in a close hard fought game. The score was tied 17-17 heading into the 4th quarter. TCU couldn’t close it out and fell to KSU. Final Score: 24-17
University of Houston – Houston beat UConn, but it was to be expected. UConn has not been good in football and isn’t good this year. The final score should have been a little more lopsided in favor of the Cougars. It’s safe to say at this point that the Holgorsen experiment is not off to a good start. Final Score: 24-17
University of North Texas – UNT survived Middle Tennessee, but is still just 3-4 on the season and doesn’t look like the team that has had recent success in CUSA. Final Score: 33-30
Texas State – Bye Week
UTSA – In another battle for the bottom 3, UTSA beat Rice in a close and hard fought game. Final Score: 31-27
Rice – Lost to UTSA. At least they have UTEP to close out the year. Final Score: 31-27
UTEP – UTEP continued to struggle as they fell to FIU in a game that was never in doubt. Final Score: 32-17
