Texas State, UFCU Announce Naming Rights, Multitiered Partnership

TXST Release:

SAN MARCOS, Texas – In a landmark partnership, Texas State University and UFCU (University Federal Credit Union) have signed a multitiered agreement that will rebrand the football stadium at Texas State as UFCU Stadium and expand UFCU’s 11-year relationship across the Texas State campus.

The naming rights deal is the largest corporate sponsorship in the Sun Belt Conference for naming rights at a football stadium and one of the largest for a college football stadium in the state of Texas. The naming rights deal is a 15-year, $23 million partnership.

The expanded partnership between Texas State and UFCU will also go beyond the football stadium. UFCU will become the official credit union of Texas State University, open a full-service branch within Texas State’s Lyndon B. Johnson Student Center in the fall of 2024, and continue to offer a wide range of banking and financial counseling services to Texas State students, faculty and staff.

“Texas State is excited to take our long-time partnership with UFCU to this next level,” said Texas State President Kelly Damphousse. “As Texas institutions, we share a commitment to serve our state and to increase access to opportunity, education, and growth. This announcement is just the beginning to a relationship that will benefit our students, our university, and the larger community.”

“UFCU has dedicated itself to creating a positive impact in Central Texas and across the state since our inception 88 years ago,” stated UFCU CEO and President Michael Crowl. “The growth and prominence of Texas State University also reflect the difference they are making. Together, we will strengthen our undeniable influence as we help others achieve championship-level success. This innovative collaboration serves as yet another testament to how UFCU is reshaping the region and the state.”

“We at Texas State are ready to make a statement,” said Texas State Director of Athletics Don Coryell. “We are in the middle of a tremendous run of success that has created unprecedented momentum across campus. To further that momentum, we are excited to expand our partnership with UFCU, which has chosen to invest in both Texas State Athletics and the entire university. We are ready to welcome Bobcat fans to UFCU Stadium and looking forward to UFCU directly supporting our student-athletes through education and resources.”

Since 2013, UFCU has served as one of Texas State’s most prominent corporate partners, providing nearly $3 million to support university groups and initiatives, underwrite scholarships and internships, present financial workshops, and fund athletic programs.

UFCU Stadium, which was renovated to its current construction in 2012, is home to Texas State football. The Bobcats are coming off one of their best seasons in program history when they reached and won the program’s first bowl game and won an FBS-program record eight games.

Texas State also experienced the best season attendance ever at UFCU Stadium in 2023, bringing in a record 127,102 fans – a 21 percent increase from the previous season.

UFCU Stadium is also undergoing a $37 million facility renovation with the Johnny and Nathali Weisman Football Performance Center and William Trevillion IV Weight Room Complex. The project includes an 8,000-square foot weight room, new training room with enhanced rehab equipment and hydrotherapy pools, a players lounge, expanded team locker room, and hospitality areas for fans on gamedays.

The national search for a naming rights and campus partner at Texas State was led by Independent Sports & Entertainment (ISE), a sales representation, management, sales, consulting, and marketing agency with offices across the United States. LEARFIELD, a media, data, and technology services leader in intercollegiate athletics and Texas State’s multimedia rights partner, worked with the university and ISE on this agreement.
