TXST Football Pulls Off Upset – Defeats Baylor 42-31

“I told you we were going to shock the world tonight. But it ain’t surprising nobody in this room. This is a new era of Texas State football.”

~GJ Kinne

That’s exactly what Texas State did when they walked into McLane Stadium and beat the Baylor Bears 42-31 on Saturday night.

It was the first time the Bobcats have beaten an autonomy 5 opponent and it came against an in state foe as the team has been pushing a #TakeBackTexas message in GJ Kinne’s first year as the Head Coach.

TJ Finley led the Bobcats at QB going 22-30 for 298 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Joey Hobert, who had the #1 play on ESPN Sports Center Top 10, recorded 6 receptions for 105 yards with one touchdown.

The Bobcats combined for a total 441 yards on the day as they scored 42 points. The Bears scored first after the Bobcats held them to just a field goal with 10 minutes left in the first quarter. The Bobcats answered their very next possession with an 8 play 75 yard drive capped off with a 10 yard TJ Finley pass to Ismail Mahdi for a Touchdown.

The Bobcats never looked back as they maintained the lead the rest of the game.

Texas State now turns to the next game up as they face UTSA in San Antonio on Saturday September 9th at 2:30 PM. For those Bobcats still looking for tickets, you will need to purchase through the UTSA ticket page since the university has already sold out their allotment.
