Add FAU to the schools we lag behind in athletic facilities.
If you know any alumni that have $38M lying around to give us, we can keep up in no time. The Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence plays a central role in elevating FAU's academic and athletic standing while helping student-athletes reach their greatest potential. The facility received initial funding of $16 million from the Schmidt Family Foundation, the largest single gift in FAU's history.
The Complex is located next to FAU Stadium. In addition to a student-athlete academic and leadership center, the state-of-the-art facilities includes a strength and conditioning wellness center, sports medicine center, locker rooms, the FAU MBA Sport Management Program, a history and tradition hall, indoor training center and outdoor practice fields.
Since the announcement of the generous gift by the Schmidt Family Foundation, additional gifts have been graciously committed to making the Schmidt Family Complex a reality. Gifts include:
$16 million Schmidt Family Foundation
$5 million Christine E. Lynn Sports Medicine Center
$5 million Bobby and Barbara Campbell Academic Success Center
$1 million Eleanor R. Baldwin History and Tradition Hall
$500,000 Cathy and Abdol Moabery
$500,000 Dr. Ann and Alan Aker
If you had $38M lying around, why though give to an athletics facility that kids already have in order to add bells and whistles for some silly arms race and instead give it to find a cure for cancer or maybe a real end to this pandemic. It's odd where our priorities lie when it comes to college football and the rest of our civilization. If you know any alumni that have $38M lying around to give us, we can keep up in no time.
X2Personally I think we have pretty decent facilities already. Maybe an indoor practice facility, but otherwise we're good for our current G5 level.
But it does support legitimate and needed academic programs:If you had $38M lying around, why though give to an athletics facility that kids already have in order to add bells and whistles for some silly arms race and instead give it to find a cure for cancer or maybe a real end to this pandemic. It looks small to me, Idk I've never been inside.
plenty of pics comparing peer program facilities: http://maroonandgolden.com/forum/index.php?threads/bobcat-stadium-renovation.1196/post-31576From Spav's mouth last night: Our facilities are among the worst in the nation, and definitely in the conference. Fan facing stuff is great, but the stuff the players use is well below par. He pointed out that our weight room is 4,000sq', while Louisiana's is 16,000sq'.
I didn't see a date for this article, but here is a list of the football weight rooms for each d1 football team in Texas:Good, much better than I thought!
oof. "Weight room size, unknown", and the youtube video from 2013. The jokes write themselves.
this is why we lose.If you had $38M lying around, why though give to an athletics facility that kids already have in order to add bells and whistles for some silly arms race and instead give it to find a cure for cancer or maybe a real end to this pandemic.
