Men are competing in the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate hosted by Arkansas State at Reflection Bay Golf Club. 'Cats played really good and consistent as a team in round 2 finishing with a team score of -6 to move up 11 places from 18th into a tie for 7th going into the final round. Not sure why the leaderboard is not updating and shows one team member as not finished. However, Kaspar Nyland's score will have no bearing on the standings unless he records a double eagle on his final hole. If they play well tomorrow they could put some heat on those teams in front of them and move up a few spots. May not be able to pass all of the teams but could end with a top 5 finish with a round similar to what they did today.

Well, what started out like what could have been an epic day did not end very well. The Bobcats dropped down the leaderboard three spots to end up 10th in the 22 team field. At one point they got to within a stroke of fifth and a couple shots out of third behind the stellar play of Marcelo Garza and Jack Burke. When I started following the scores Garza was 4 under through 5 holes and later got to 8 under through 12. Meanwhile Burke had gotten to 4 under through 11. The team had gotten to -14 and was in great shape with 5-6 holes to play and poised to make a run to finish in the top three. I really was hoping to see the Garza kid keep going low and make some more birdies to get to 10 or 11 under. Unfortunately, the wheels came off, not only for him but the other 4 as well and it just wasn't meant to be. Hopefully, they learned from their mistakes and will use it to their advantage down the road. With the way the guys were playing I think this was more of a mental issue than playing ability. The attached graphic shows the finishing holes according to where the team started. All that red early in the round is a great thing. The green and blue in the latter 3-5 holes is not.

Been slacking. Lots of stuff going on in life right now. Not going to get in to particulars.

The Bobcat men finished in a tie for third during the stroke play portion of the SBC golf championship. The top four teams advance to the match play portion of the championship. With their fine play in rounds 2 and 3 the 'Cats earned the 4th seed and will play #1 seed Arkansas State in the morning. A win gets them in the final against either ULM (2) or Marshall (3) in the Championship match tomorrow afternoon. Matches will be televised on ESPN+ starting at 10:30.
