2021-22 college football bowl affiliations by conference
The college football bowl schedule will be largely announced on Sunday, with the College Football Playoff and New Year's Six bowl games going first.

The bowls have no selection order; teams are selected based on proximity, matchups and other factors.
- Bahamas Bowl vs. MAC
- Independence Bowl vs. BYU or At-large
- New Mexico Bowl vs. Mountain West
- New Orleans Bowl vs. Sun Belt
- Myrtle Beach Bowl vs. AAC, MAC or Sun Belt
- Boca Raton Bowl vs. At-large
- First Responder Bowl vs. At-large
- Birmingham Bowl vs. SEC or AAC
- Cure Bowl vs. At-large
- Frisco Bowl vs. At-Large
- Gasparilla Bowl vs. ACC, AAC or SEC
- Armed Forces Bowl vs. Big 12, PAC-12 or Army
- Fenway Bowl vs. AAC or ACC
- Camellia Bowl vs. MAC or Sun Belt

Bowl tie-ins have gotten more complicated to explain over the last decade, and the Sun Belt may be the hardest to follow.
ESPN Events will get the Nos. 1, 3 and 4 picks of Sun Belt teams. Those teams will go to one of these bowls:
- Myrtle Beach Bowl vs. MAC or Sun Belt
- Boca Raton Bowl vs. At-large
- First Responder Bowl vs. ACC, Big 12 or PAC-12
- Cure Bowl vs. At-large
- Frisco Bowl vs. At-Large
- Camellia Bowl vs. C-USA or MAC
- Idaho Potato Bowl vs. MAC or Mountain West
- New Mexico Bowl vs. C-USA or Mountain West
2. New Orleans Bowl vs. Conference USA
5. LendingTree Bowl vs. MAC

To be fair, going to the independence bowl is normally a tradition since it is so close and the revenue to the area. Shreveport is only about 70 miles away so keeping a major bowl close is a nice thing to have here in BFE. For me, taunting the birds and having the TXST brand on ESPN cameras at their bowl game seems like fun to me if Iām already going to be there.Owning the birds by purchasing tickets and providing revenue for the program? Really? Learn something new every day. I'll wipe the egg off my face now.
Teams get $X from the bowl for appearing (this actually goes to the conference and gets pooled/split).
They are responsible for selling X tickets to their fans - this actually costs the teams in many cases as they can't sell their allotment, but still owe the bowl that $$.

Irrelevant to the discussion:
Independence Bowl was the 1st bowl game I ever attended in 1981. My oldest brother's school aTm, vs my dad's OKST. We had 6 there and the tickets were split 4/2. For some reason my brother in his corps uniform and I were chosen to take the 2, which was in the middle of the OKST fans. I do remember thinking even as a little kid that Shreveport was a complete dump.
