WBB Press Release for tonight's game:

Texas State to put five-game winning streak on the line at App State

BOONE, N.C. — Riding its longest conference winning streak since the late stages of the 2017-18 season, the Texas State women's basketball program will look to extend its winning ways to six straight games on Saturday, Feb. 19, when the Bobcats travel to North Carolina to play App State at 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT.

LOOKING AT THE BOBCATS

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic forcing the Sun Belt Conference to shift to East and West Divisions for the 2020-21 season, Saturday's game will mark the first women's basketball game in Boone, N.C., for Texas State since Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, a span of 1,108 days.

Texas State senior guard Kennedy Taylor will enter Saturday's contest ranked fourth in the nation and first in the Sun Belt Conference with 157 assists. At 5-foot-3, Taylor is the shortest Division I women's basketball student-athlete to be ranked among the top seven in the country in total assists. Taylor's 157 assists are the most by a non-Power Five women's basketball student-athlete heading into this weekend's Division I women's basketball action.

So far this season, the Texas State women's basketball program is 2-0 in games palyed in the Eastern Time Zone: 78-74 W at Georgia Southern (1/13/22) and 73-55 W at Georgia State (1/15/22). Since joining the Sun Belt Conference prior to the 2013-14 season, Texas State women's basketball head coach Zenarae Antoine is 10-13 all-time in regular-season conference games played in the Eastern Time Zone. Heading into this weekend, Antoine and the Bobcats are riding an active two-game winning streak in games played in the Eastern Time Zone.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS

App State is lead — both offensively and defensively — by Alexia Allesch. In nine conference-only games this season, Allesch is sixth in the Sun Belt Conference with a 16.2 points per game clip. She also brings down an average of 10.7 rebounds per game Allesch is one of three women's basketball student-athletes in the conference (Louisiana's Ty'Reona Doucet, Troy's Felmas Koranga) to average a double-double in conference-only games.

Saturday's game will mark the first home women's basketball contest for App State since hosting Coastal Carolina on Wednesday, Jan. 26. Over the last nine conference games for the Mountaineers, only three have occurred inside Holmes Convocation Center. This weekend's basketball game between the Bobcats and Mountaineers will mark the beginning of a three-game home stretch to close out the regular season for App State.

SERIES HISTORY

Saturday's matchup between Texas State and Appalachian State will be the first since the two teams met on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020 in San Marcos. When the game is started this weekend, it will mark the first women's basketball game in Boone, N.C., for Texas State since Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019.

Texas State, which trails the all-time series against App State 7-5, is looking for its first win over the Mountaineers in Boone, N.C. since winning 69-54 on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017.
