WBB Press Release for tomorrow's doubleheader with Coastal:

Bobcats return to the court to face Chanticleers for first time in two seasons

SAN MARCOS, TX — The Texas State women's basketball team will look to bring its winning roadways to Strahan Arena, where the Bobcats and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will square off on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. CT.

Brant Freeman (play by play) and Suzanne Fox (analyst) will have the call on ESPN+. The game will be part of an afternoon doubleheader with the Bobcats' men's basketball team playing Coastal Carolina's men's basketball program at 5 p.m. CT.

LOOKING AT THE BOBCATS

Since splitting a pair of three throws in the closing seconds of the second quarter at UTA on Thursday, Jan. 20, Texas State senior guard Kennedy Taylor has gone on to connect on her last nine consecutive free throws attempts throughout the last 14 quarters of Bobcat women's basketball.

With her 19-point, 11-rebound performance at Arkansas State on Saturday, Jan. 29, Texas State senior guard Ja'Kayla Bowie became the fifth different Bobcat women's basketball student-athlete with a double-double. The Tyler, Texas native joined Kennedy Taylor, Lauryn Thompson, Da'Nasia Hood and Gabby Standifer to be credited with a double-double this season.

With her 14-point outing at Arkansas State on Saturday, Jan. 29, Texas State senior forward Da'Nasia Hood extended her consecutive conference games played with double-digit points scored to nine straight, which is a career long for the Wagner High School product. Last season, Hood had a then-career-long streak of eight games from Jan. 8, 2021 to Feb. 6, 2021. This season, Hood has scored 14-or-more points in every Sun Belt Conference game, including five 20-point outings and a pair of 30-point games. Hood is the only women's basketball student-athlete in the Sun Belt Conference to have multiple 30-plus point games against two conference foes after having a career-high 32 at Georgia Southern (1/13) and 30 at Little Rock (1/27).

SCOUTING THE CHANTICLEERS

The basketball always finds Coastal Carolina's Aja Blount. Through this point of the 2021-22 season, Blount is leading the team in field goal attempts (285), field goals made (130), field goal percentage (45.6), points (341), free throws attempted (85), free throws made (70), free throw percentage (82.4), points per game (18.9), rebounds (163) and rebounds per game (9.1).

Texas State will be the first non-Central Time Zone opponent for Coastal Carolina since playing at Arkansas State on Jan. 15, 2022, after having two games cancelled followed by a home-and-home with App State last week. Outside of the Eastern Time Zone, the Chanticleers are 0-3 against conference opponents this season.

SERIES HISTORY

Coastal Carolina and Texas State haven't linked up on the hardwood since Feb. 6, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic causing the Sun Belt Conference to go to division-only schedule during the 2020-21 season. The Chanticleers lead the all-time series 5-4 and are currently on a three-game winning streak.

The last time Texas State knocked off Coastal Carolina in San Marcos was Jan. 10, 2019, when the Bobcats won 73-58 behind a 25-point third quarter. Only a quartet of Bobcats have played against the Chanticleers: Da'Nasia Hood, Kennedy Taylor, Ja'Kayla Bowie and Jaeda Reed.
