Prior to USA coming up last season, Coastal was our biggest challenge to the conference title with Cats over Chants in the title matches of both the 2019 and 2020 seasons. What's telling in that rivalry for the top of the conference, is that we own a 7-3 advantage and lost the 1st 2 matches, so 7-1 since the start of the 2017 season and 6 straight.
Coastal is 1-3 vs the P5 types, besting VaTech (11-14) and losing to aTm (12-13), TCU (12-10) and Penn State (19-6). Have a couple of solid wins vs Davidson and Memphis, but some bad losses to the likes of Howard and Wofford. In SBC play, they've been swept by USA and JMU and dropped one to Old Dominion (11-14/6-6)
I mentioned this in the season thread, but they lost their Top 5 Scorers from last season, but still a familiar feel w/ all the internationals - 8 players from outside the US. Their top scorers: Israel, Puerto Rico, Poland, USA, Hungary, Canada. Unlike many of the teams we've faced this season, this is a fairly balanced scoring team. #7 is their stud w/ 330pts and #13 has 263, but then they have another 5 players over 100, including their S, which tells me we're going to see plenty of DeWalt style dumps on 2. Look for the to primarily attack the pins as their top 3 scorers are OH. From the service line, our Aces/Set numbers are identical at 1.56, but they have about 50 more errors on the season.
