Peveto Added as Co-Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach

TXST Release:

SAN MARCOS, Texas – A veteran coach with more than 30 years of experience, Bradley Dale Peveto has been named Texas State’s co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach, head coach GJ Kinne announced on Tuesday.

With experience as a head coach and leading defensive and special teams units, Peveto (pronounced PEA-vit-toe) brings a national championship-winning resume to a Texas State defensive staff under newly-named defensive coordinator Dexter McCoil Sr.

“Coach Peveto has tremendous experience on the field and great experience in the state of Texas,” said Kinne. “When going through the process, his ability to recruit, his football IQ, and his character all stood out to me. He has been a part of championship-level teams, and we’re excited to add him to our program.”

Peveto arrives at Texas State after spending the last three years at UTEP as the defensive coordinator. With the Miners, his defenses were first or second in total defense in Conference USA in each season, including the league’s top defensive unit in 2022. This past season, UTEP was first in CUSA in pass defense and third in rush defense.

Peveto has worked at all levels of NCAA Division I, including stints at Arkansas, Houston, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. He was the head coach at Northwestern State for four seasons from 2009-12.

Peveto has also made stops at Middle Tennessee (2003-04), Southern Miss (1992-93), and Stephen F. Austin (1988-91).

Peveto has been a part of teams that have reached 11 bowl games, including the 2007 BCS National Championship with LSU as the national champion’s linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. His teams have also made four appearances in the FCS Playoffs and helped lead Stephen F. Austin to a national championship in 1989.

Peveto, a native of Orangefield, Texas, started his coaching career at Trinity Valley CC in 1987 and has coached in the state of Texas for 14 years over his career. He was a four-year letterwinner at SMU from 1982-86 as well as a graduate of SMU and Stephen F. Austin (master’s, 1989).
