Texas FBS Power Ranking: Week 6

This is the Maroon & Golden Power Rankings for the 12 Texas FBS teams. We will update this throughout the season as we learn more about each team in 2019. This ranking is a purely subjective ranking based on how each team is trending and who we think is better than the next.

Texas – UT beat West Virginia in Morgantown. This was a game they were expected to win and they didn’t disappoint. Next week the Longhorns will take on Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry. While Texas has solidified it’s status among the other Texas FBS schools at this point, a win against the Sooners would go a long way in establishing their national perception. Final Score: 42-31

SMU – Good teams just find ways to win. That’s exactly what SMU did on Saturday night. SMU found themselves down 30-9 entering the 4th quarter. Even SMU’s fans had started filing out of the stadium conceding the loss… Everyone except the players had given up. It’s a good thing they didn’t, because they then came back to tie the game and force overtime. SMU would win in triple OT to remain undefeated and qualify for the post season just 6 games into the season. Final Score: 43-37

Baylor – Another one of the surprise teams from the Lone Star State is Baylor. They beat Kansas State 31-12 this week to remain unbeaten and move their way into both the Coaches and AP Polls. Final Score: 31-12

Texas A&M – Bye Week

Texas Tech – Texas Tech bounced back nicely after losing to #6 Oklahoma last week. This week they beat the other Oklahoma team in the Big 12, Oklahoma State. OSU entered the game ranked #21, but that didn’t matter to the Red Raiders as they got an early lead and held on to win. Final Score: 45-35

TCU – TCU was no match for the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday. TCU did score 14 points in the 4th quarter to bring it within 11, but their comeback bid was short lived as ISU scored on their next drive to put the game out of reach for good.  Final Score: 49-24

University of Houston – Bye Week

University of North Texas – Bye Week

Texas State – Bye Week

UTSA – UTSA faced off against rival UTEP in El Paso this week. The Roadrunners came out on top and saved themselves from a last place ranking this week. Final Score: 26-16

Rice – Rice dropped a spot this week after losing another game and falling to 0-6 on the season. The only reason they have been able to maintain a better ranking thus far is because they have looked decent in their losing efforts so far this season. Unfortunately, looking good while you lose is still losing. They get a bye week and then play UTSA in a game that will likely solidify the bottom 3 of this list for the rest of the season. Final Score: 35-20

UTEP – UTEP fell to rival UTSA at home and unfortunately for them are likely going to finish in last place this season. Their schedule doesn’t get any easier, but they do face Rice to end the season. Final Score: 26-16
