Jordan Revels Named to Bednarik Watch List

Press Release: SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State’s Jordan Revels, after being named All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention a year ago, was named to the 2022 Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Monday.

The Bednarik Award is presented annually to the best defensive player in college football, and Revels is one of 90 players named to this year’s preseason watch list.

A product of North Shore High School in Houston, Revels played in all 12 games last year, including 11 starts at defensive end. He led the Bobcats in TFLs and quarterback hurries while he was second on the team with 3.0 sacks. He totaled 59 tackles (29 solo), 7.5 TFLs, 7 quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery over the course of the season.

In three seasons with Texas State, Revels has played in 31 games and registered 117 tackles, 12.0 TFLs and 3.0 sacks.

Having played on the defensive line his entire college career, Revels is moving to outside linebacker this season.

Revels is among 32 linebackers on the Bednarik Award Watch List.

Semifinalists for the Bednarik Award will be announced on November 1 while the three finalists will be unveiled on November 22. The winner of the 28th Bednarik Award will be revealed as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 8. The formal presentation of the award will be made at the 86th Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala live from Atlantic City, New Jersey on March 10, 2023.

The award, which was established in 1995, is named after Chuck Bednarik, a two-time NFL champion and 10-time First Team All-Pro linebacker. He is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame. He was also the last player in NFL history to play both ways of the ball full time.

Revels and the Bobcats, who return 19 starters from last year, start their 2022 season on the road at Nevada on September 3. The home opener is set for September 10 against FIU at 6 pm.
