Soccer to Open Conference Play at Home

TXST Press Release: SAN MARCOS, Texas – A three-match homestand concludes with the first match of Sun Belt Conference play, as the Texas State soccer team (6-1-1) takes on Arkansas State (2-3-2) on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

The match will be streamed on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Katie Goodman on the call. Live stats will also be available.

About Texas State

Last weekend saw the Bobcats extend their unbeaten streak to seven matches with a 2-1 win over Rice, the first in 20 years, before suffering their first loss of the year against No. 16 TCU. In conference opening matches, TXST is 16-3-4 all-time with a 7-1-1 mark since joining the Sun Belt.

Both Madi Goss and Zoe Junior have scored a team-high three goals. Bailey Peschel is the only other player to net multiple goals on the season with two. Mya Ulloa comes in with a team best two assists while eight other players have been credited with one assist.

Katelyn Chrisman heads into conference play sporting a 1.15 GAA with 16 saves over seven matches. Beth Agee has made two appearances between the posts. The junior has made two saves and hasn’t allowed a goal in 95:45 minutes.

About Arkansas State

The Red Wolves are coming off a split weekend with a victory over Missouri State and loss to Western Kentucky that saw both matches end with a 1-0 score line. The only other win for ASU came against Central Arkansas while suffering losses to Arkansas and Arkansas-Pine Bluff and drawing with Little Rock and Northwestern State. Saturday will be just the second road match of the season for the Red Wolves with the other being against the Razorbacks.

Sydoney Clarke leads the team with two goals, five points and a .714 shot on goal percentage. Pacing the team with three assists is Emma Riley. Both Summit Dann and Phoebe Harpole have attempted a team-high 12 shots.

Between the posts, Olivia Luther has played in all seven matches and made five stats. She sports a 0.67 GAA with a17 saves and a .850 save percentage. Also seeing time in goal has been Damaris Deschaine. The redshirt freshman has played in five matches, starting two of them, and recorded a 1.60 GAA with nine saves and .692 save percentage.

All-Time Series

Arkansas State holds a slim 6-5-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Red Wolves are undefeated in the last five meetings (4-0-1) and have recorded a shutout in four of them. Last season saw them claim a 3-1 win in San Marcos.

Texas State is 3-3-0 all-time when hosting ASU. The last win for the Bobcats came on Sept. 30, 2018 at home by a 2-1 score.
