This is the Maroon & Golden Power Rankings for the 12 Texas FBS teams. We will update this throughout the season as we learn more about each team in 2019. This ranking is a purely subjective ranking based on how each team is trending and who we think is better than the next.Â
Baylor – Baylor has overtaken SMU after an SMU loss and a win over West Virginia this week. Similar to SMU from previous weeks, they just keep winning. However, with a strength of schedule at number 58 on Team Rankings and having not played TCU, OU, or Texas yet, they may not hold onto this spot for long. Final Score: 17-14
SMU – SMU lost their first game of the season against Memphis this week. The final score looked much closer than the game actually was. Through 3 quarters, Memphis had a 40-24 lead. SMU was able to fight their way back into it by out scoring Memphis 24-14 in the 4th, but it was too little too late and their comeback bid fell just short. Final Score: 54-48
Texas A&M – A&M has now moved back up to 3rd in our rankings after beating UTSA this week. Their movement here is more about how TCU and Texas look than anything they did. A&M was expected to beat UTSA and they did. A&M doesn’t have any good wins on their record yet, but their losses have all been to top 10 teams. Final Score: 45-14
TCU – Lost to Oklahoma State in a close game. Unfortunately, TCU lost the turnover battle 4-1 and that was the defining stat in this game. Oklahoma State was only able to capitalize on one of those turnovers, but it was for 7 points and that was the difference in this one. Final Score: 34-27
Texas – Bye Week
Texas Tech – Bye Week
University of Houston – UH lost to UCF this week. While UCF isn’t the national title contender they have been in the past few years, they are still a very difficult team to beat. UH on the other hand is having a very down year, currently sitting at 3-6 after the loss. Final Score: 44-29
University of North Texas – Another in state matchup this week for UNT as they took on and beat UTEP. Obviously with UTEP being at the bottom of our rankings, this was expected. However, UTEP did put up some points and made it look respectable. Final Score: 52-26
Texas State – TXST lost to a very good ULL team. ULL will likely be playing App State for the Sun Belt Championship at the end of the season. Unfortunately, the Bobcats have still not been able to beat the Ragin’ Cajuns. Final Score: 31-3
UTSA – UTSA lost to A&M this week. The game opened with a punt for both teams followed by a UTSA score to take a 7-0 lead. It was a promising start for the Road Runners. Unfortunately, the Aggies would go on to score the next 45 points of the game. Final Score: 45-14
Rice – Rice fell to Marshall in a low scoring game. Rice was able to gain a 7-3 lead early in the 2nd quarter, but failed to score again as Marshall scored the final 17 points unanswered. Final Score: 20-7
UTEP – As mentioned above, UTEP fell to UNT in an in-state match-up. The Miners didn’t look completely helpless though as they put up 26 points. UTEP still has a chance to climb up a spot on our list as they face Rice to close out the season on November 30th. Final Score: 52-26
