Texas FBS Power Rankings: Week 11

This is the Maroon & Golden Power Rankings for the 12 Texas FBS teams. We will update this throughout the season as we learn more about each team in 2019. This ranking is a purely subjective ranking based on how each team is trending and who we think is better than the next.

Baylor – Baylor continues to win. This week it was against fellow private school and big time rival TCU. The game didn’t disappoint either. At the end of regulation, it was just a 9-9 game and required overtime to settle it. TCU scored all of the first half points on 3 field goals and Baylor answered with all of the second half points on 3 field goals. The game finally ended in the 3rd overtime when TCU couldn’t answer a Baylor TD. Final Score: 29-23

SMU – SMU got back to their winning ways after another high scoring victory. This week they defeated East Carolina in a shootout. Final Score: 59-51

Texas A&M – Bye Week

TCU – As mentioned above, TCU fell to Baylor in a heartbreaking triple overtime loss for the Horned Frogs. Final Score: 29-23

Texas – UT “upset” #16 Kansas State at home this week. I use quotes around the word upset because while UT was unranked and KSU was #16, UT was favored by 7 in vegas. They didn’t cover, but they still pulled off the win on a last second Dicker the Kicker field goal. Final Score: 27-24

Texas Tech – TTU got a convincing win over West Virginia this week. This one was never in doubt either. The Red Raiders got out to an early 28-3 lead and never looked back. WVU didn’t do themselves any favors either with 4 turnovers to TTU’s 0. Final Score: 38-17

University of Houston – Bye Week

UNT – UNT got manhandled by 8-1 Louisiana Tech this week. The Bulldogs haven’t lost a conference game yet, so you can’t fault a struggling UNT team too much for the loss. However, as a UNT fan, I’m sure you hate to see a loss so lopsided. Final Score: 52-17

Texas State – TXST got their 3rd win of the season against South Alabama. This is a game that TXST was expected to win and they did. Barely. They had to survive a muffed punt with about 4 minutes left in the game that set USA up within field goal range for the go ahead field goal. Luckily for the Bobcats, the Jaguars missed the kick and the Bobcats were able to run the clock out from there for the win. Final Score: 30-28

UTSA – UTSA had a very similar week to TXST. UTSA was facing a 1-8 ODU team that was actually favored to beat the 2-6 Roadrunners. ODU had actually built a 23-10 lead over the Roadrunners heading into the 4th quarter. UTSA ended up scoring the final 2 TD’s of the game to take the lead in the final minutes of the game. Final Score: 24-23

Rice – Bye Week

UTEP – UTEP retains their spot as worst Texas FBS team. This week, they lost to Charlotte 28-21. All 21 points came in the first half. Final Score: 28-21
