Soccer Hosts Jaguars in West Division Battle
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Sun Belt Conference leading Texas State soccer team (11-2-2, 5-1-1 Sun Belt) hosts fellow West Division foe South Alabama (8-1-6, 4-0-3 Sun Belt) Thursday night in a battle of top teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

For the second straight match, the Bobcats need a late goal to come away with a 2-1 victory as Kiara Gonzales and Wimberley Wright scored in the final seven minutes at Troy that put the Bobcats atop the conference table. TXST has 16 points and sits one point ahead of both Arkansas State and the Jaguars in the West while James Madison leads the East Division with 15 points as well. The Bobcats are closing in on a top six seed, which would give them a bye until the quarterfinals, and can secure that spot with a win or tie Thursday along certain results in contests involving App State, Georgia State and Old Dominion (more details in match notes).
Madi Goss leads Texas State with eight goals and 19 points while adding three assists. Zoe Junior comes in with four goals, all of them match-winners, and Olivia Wright has added three tallies. Netting two goals apiece has been Bailey Peschel, Addison Peters, Gonzales and W. Wright. Credited with a team best four assists is Juana Plata and both Haley Shaw and Mya Ulloa have assisted on two scores apiece.
Katelyn Chrisman has started 14 matches in goal and comes in with a 1.15 GAA. She has made 43 saves with a .729 save percentage. For her career, the sophomore has stopped 58 shots and needs four more to crack the program’s top 10 list.
About South Alabama
USA is coming off an 8-1 win at home over Southern Miss this past Sunday. Others wins in Sun Belt play have been against Louisiana, Troy and ULM while draws were versus Georgia State, James Madison and Old Dominion. The lone loss the Jaguars have suffered was on the road at then No. 21 Texas A&M by a 4-1 score.
Jasmine Greene recorded a hat trick in the win over the Golden Eagles to earn the league’s offensive player of the week accolade. For the season, she has a conference best 10 goals and 22 points. Monique Gray comes in with eight goals and Imane Addi has scored seven times, five of them being match-winners, while adding four assists. Credited with a team-high five assists are Danielle Fuentes and Gracie Wilson.
Between the posts, Jaidy Gutierrez has played all 1,350 possible minutes. She has surrendered 10 goals for a 0.67 GAA while making 29 saves for a .744 save percentage.
All-Time Series
South Alabama leads the all-time series 7-1-2. Last season saw the Jaguars win 3-0 in Mobile to extend the Bobcats winless streak in the series to three matches. The lone win for Texas State came on Sept. 23, 2018 on the road by a 1-0 score. Kaylee Davis scored the lone goal early in the 10th minute and Heather Martin made 10 saves, seven of which came in the second half.
When hosting the Jaguars, TXST is 0-3-0 all-time. All three of those matches were shutouts for USA with the first and third contest ending 1-0 in an overtime period.
