Charli Fouts Tabbed as Assistant Coach for Bobcat Volleyball

Texas State volleyball head coach Sean Huiet announced Thursday morning the addition of Charli Fouts to his coaching staff as a full-time assistant coach.

"This hire was a no brainer for me," Huiet said. "Charli is one of the hardest working people I have been around. I have been fortunate enough to know her since she was 15 years old and have watched her grow up in the volleyball world. She has an incredibly bright future ahead of her in the coaching profession and I'm so excited to keep her in San Marcos. Charli is ready for this next phase of her coaching career and our program is so lucky to have her.

Fouts joined the Texas State volleyball program as a graduate assistant in July 2021. In her second season she has continued her responsibilities working hand-in-hand with the Texas State volleyball coaching staff on practice schedules and strategies, travel and logistical obligations, and additional behind-the-scene tasks. Fouts also worked with the communication department for shape the program's social media strategy for the season.

"Stepping into the assistant coaching role here at Texas State was simply an opportunity I could not pass up," Fouts said. "I am eager to be a part of continuing this volleyball program's championship legacy and excited I get to do it around people I love!"

In November 2021, Fouts was one of 18 recipients of the 2021 Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship that allowed a select group of up-and-coming volleyball coaches to attend their first AVCA Convention, by covering their registration fee and hotel costs for the event. Current Texas State volleyball associate head coach Keith Anderson, who was a recipient of the opportunity in 2014, severed as a mentor for one of the recipients of Fouts' class.

Fouts is a three-year letter from Canyon High School and played NCAA Division I volleyball as a defensive specialist at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La. where she was named on the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll every season.

While Fouts was in Louisiana, she spent two years as the head coach for Rocketfuel, Natchitoches' first-ever club volleyball team. After spreading the game of volleyball in the small Louisiana community, she returned home to the competitive Lone Star region. Fouts then interned under former Texas State recruiting coordinator Tracy Smith with United VBA's 17 Purple National team. Fouts helped lead the team to a fifth-place finish at the Red Rock Rave Junior National Qualifier in Las Vegas. Fouts will head coach the 141 Purple National team this season at United.

Fouts graduated from NSU in May 2021 with a bachelor's of science degree in health and exercise science with a minor in business administration. She is pursuing a master's degree at Texas State in exercise science with a concentration in sports coaching and strength and conditioning.

Fouts was the president of the Quidditch Club in high school as well as an honorary winner of the most recent Triwizard Tournament, hosted by Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy.

Didn't go to SMTX yesterday, but didn't hear great things. Friend's daughter plays for one of the opponents, so this is coming from her via him:

They split w/ D2 Angelo State (11-18 last year)
HCSH was not happy - apparently "ran them [our team] out of there" following the match.
Bigger than they used to be but the back row is a problem - I challenged this saying back row is the last of my worries w/ this squad, and he came back w/ "she meant that the setters weren't connecting" which aligns more w/ my concerns.
The mom was impressed w/ the front row: They have D1 arms for sure

Keep an eye out for some commitments soon. From HCSH FB:
Staff appreciation post coming at you. These two work their butts off for our program. They make my day to day tasks as a head coach way easier than they should be and they never shy away from the hard. They also make me laugh a lot!!! I’m blessed to call them coworkers and lucky to call them friends. Big shout out to Charli who was recently promoted into full time assistant role while she is finishing her masters and still coaching her club team. She is absolutely crushing it. She’s done 4 visits since she started and has gotten 4 commitments- not too shabby.

Texas released their schedule and we're not on it. Kind of a bummer, but probably for the best. Hope we don't see a basketball level OOC slate, but they can't be going up against some of the powers we've had recently w/ this new squad.

Any rumors of who OOC games might be against? Came out 1st week of June last year, any chance it surfaces earlier?

Maybe we can get invited to a tournament at Pepperdine or something similar. Malibu would be a fun late summer trip for the gals.

Volleyball Announces Staff Additions Ahead of 2023 Season

Texas State Volleyball Head Coach Sean Huiet has announced the addition of two new members to his coaching staff for the 2023 season. Carly Graham will join as a volunteer coach and Hope Hodges will be joining the staff as a graduate assistant.

"I am so excited about Hope and Carly joining our program," Huiet said. "Hope was our manager for 4 years and knows how we operate and what we expect so the transition into this new role will be a smooth one. She works hard, is eager, and loves being a Bobcat which make for a great combination. I am thrilled Hope will be back in maroon and gold. Carly is going to bring a wealth of high-level experience to our team. She had an amazing career at Rice, has played a season professionally and will join the Pro Volleyball Federation here in the US in the spring of 2024. Adding Carly to our coaching staff is a huge bonus and I can't wait to get her in the gym with the team."

Carly Graham joins the Bobcats following a storied career at Rice University. As a five-year starting setter for the Owls she was a three-time Conference USA Setter of the Year, a two-time honorable mention for AVCA All American and named to the 2022 US Women's Collegiate National team. She finished her career second in school history with 510 sets played, pairing that with 4,296 assists for third in school history. Additionally she played a season of professional volleyball in Montenegro.

"I can't express how excited I am to get to work with and learn from this team and staff," Graham said. "I want to thank Sean and the entire staff for this opportunity and welcoming me to Texas State! Texas State Volleyball is an amazing, well-respected program that is well recognized throughout all the NCAA. I feel extremely lucky and blessed to be here and to be a part of it."

Hope Hodges returns to Texas State after a stint as New Braunfels High School assistant volleyball coach where she won a district championship in the 2022 season. Hodges completed her undergraduate degree from Texas State in 2021 and while doing so worked as a team manager while the team won three conference championships in her four years with the program.

"It's exciting to be returning to a program I had worked with during my undergrad," Hodges said. "I look forward to another amazing season as a Bobcat!"

The West is definitely the weaker division. It's really just USA and TXST, but yeah, I think we're getting some leftover love from the past couple of years.
