@ Baylor

OOC schedule is slowly coming out.
According to @jonrothstein, Texas State is playing @ Baylor, date TBD.

Great opponent IMO, it would be nice to get a P5 opponent in San Marcos.

We have Baylor in Football and Baseball, only makes sense to get them scheduled in Basketball too. I love this type of scheduling by the way. I think it's very important to play other big name schools from Texas in out of conference. I would even lump in UH and SMU in that group.

I know this news just “trickled” out, but does anyone know if Baylor’s agreed to a return engagement in San Marvelous?

Considering we took a check to play at Drake last year without a return game, I doubt it.

But, you never know, maybe Larry and Danny will surprise me.

Nice! Might have to head down to Waco for that! Where I am originally from!

Definitely the type of OOC opponent I like to see. Name school in Texas and an easy away game for most TXST fans to attend. Baylor tends to be pretty stout in basketball so it would be great for the RPI if we can pull out the win.

According to that Google Sheet, looks we've also got a trip to Vegas on 11/21 to face UNLV. Here's hoping that's a home game in '20.

Also, @ SMU just posted. This is a nice schedule, coming together!
Hopefully, some exciting opponents are coming to San Marcos.

Looks like the SMU/UNLV games are part of our early season tournament. That's usually good for about 3 games.

Other teams I see participating in that are Abilene Christian and Jackson State. Educated guess says we will be playing one of those two also.

Home game with UTSA on December 7th.

So we know:
Away games: Baylor, SMU, UNLV
Home games: UTSA

At Air Force on November 9th (season opener?). Return game from them coming to SM last year.

I'm really liking this schedule. I'm not getting my hopes up though, regarding an exciting home opponent or two. I'm expecting an Abilene Christian type of school. Please prove me wrong Kaspar!

The non-conference home games are always the drawback to the schedule every year. There will be two non-D1 teams. One early and one right before Christmas. One will probably be Howard Payne. And we will beat them by 50 or 60 like we do every year. So pointless.

Didn't know Air Force was a 2-for-1, as we went to Colorado Springs in 2017 as well.

I fear that UTSA will be the marquee home game in non-conference. Here's hoping we get one or two more G5s in here.

Yeah you're right. I forgot about that game at Air Force in 2017.

Do we really need to schedule 2 for 1s to get a MWC team to SM? Why are D1 home and homes so hard to come by with anyone other than Southland teams and UTSA?

Because basketball scheduling is garbage and all about leverage, which TXST has had zero being terrible for decades and choosing to have very weak OOC schedules. Being better will help get teams to want to play to help RPIs. I guess that when we were ranked like 300 we had to bride teams with 2 for 1s just to even get games.

I wish NET/RPI rewarded away wins and penalized home losses more like RPI does for baseball. That could help to get better home games. Nobody wants to leave home if they don't have to, there's just no incentive to unless its to get paid.
