Best BBQ in Texas

My current favorite spot is Leroy & Lewis on S Congress.
Came in at #5. Glad I went a couple times in the past month or so, because they're going to get busy soon. Good for them too. It's criminal how little pub they get. Never more than 1 or 2 folks ahead of me in line when I go (weekday lunch).

Quite a few others mentioned in this thread made the list. Others I like on the list:

#7 Franklin - I always laugh when I see people call Franklin overrated. It may be hyped up and the line may be crazy, but it's still the best brisket out there, and it was the one that started all these other great spots opening up. Proud to say I was an early adopter at the trailer on 35. Been a couple years since I took a morning off to hit it up. May need to do that soon now that it's cooler.

Valentina's Tex Mex BBQ - Damn I wish this place was closer, and they're moving farther south. Probably should get motivated for a morning run soon.

Need to hit up Interstellar before it goes crazy. Have heard good things, but not #2 good things, so that was a surprise. Hadn't even heard of Distant Relatives. La Barbecue is on it's 3rd or 4th location and still has a long line (was eating across the street last weekend). Funny that Terry Black's in Dallas made it, but not the Austin location.

TX Monthly 50 BBQ Honorable Mentions

Nice! My boy is the pitmaster at Dozier's in Fulshear and I'm stoked to see him on the list. He hasn't been there very long, so that's a huge testament to his rep and the time he put in at Pappa Charlie's in DT Houston, and Buck's in Galveston prior to Dozier's. If he stays there until the next list comes out, I'd put money on him being in the Top 50.

Just moved to Fulshear and planning on trying Dozier’s this weekend or lunch next week.

I haven't and almost got them today, but figured that was enough food for 2 people. All told, I would have gotten that over the cabbage and sausage, which is what I get every time. Wasn't their best effort today (on the cabbage & sausage - everything else was top notch), I've had it a dozen times already, and already had sausage on it's own. Whatever, habits and whatnot. I'll make it a point to get them next time - love me some cauliflower.

Excellent! Look forward to hearing your thoughts!
Stopped by Dozier’s for lunch last week.

Meal was .5 lb brisket (loose), .25lb cheese sausage, and .25lb German sausage with Mac-n-cheese and green beans for sides. Grabbed a small banana pudding as well.

Huge fan of the brisket & Mac-n-Cheese but I wouldn’t get the sausage or green beans again. Banana pudding was a nice top off; wafers weren’t soggy and had the right amount of crunch.

I’ll definitely be back to try the chopped brisket with a baked potato and possibly another meat.

Glad to hear it! I still need to get by there at some point, but Fulshear isn't exactly on the way to anywhere...

Kinda lazy to put Interstellar w/ UT, but I get it.

You been there yet @Voltronjacko? It's kind of a pita for me to make it there on a weekday and I'm not motivated enough to get out there on a weekend.

Not yet. I was kinda hoping the TM50 buzz would die down a little, and then maybe catch them during the week. Definitely on my list though.

Yup, the TM50 buzz has jacked up my regular visits to Leroy & Lewis as well. Used to be able to pull up, 1 or 2 in line in front of me and be home w/ my food in no time at all. I've switched to Brown's on S Lamar for the time being. It's good enough, but it's not L&L.

Went to Interstellar last week before the Coaches thing at Dogwood. Didn't seem to be a whole lot of fanfare for the place considering they were #2 on the list. Also we went around 2:30 in the afternoon so it might not have been their best stuff. The brisket was good but I was expecting amazing. The sides were really good. Got the mac n cheese, potatoes, and beans. The potatoes were particularly interesting. The real winner of the show was their ribs. They might have been the best ribs I've ever had, and that was with them being kinda of cold.

I'll take Riley's in Lockhart. I find it's a great value, never have to wait in ridiculous lines, and Mr. Riley is just a cool dude. Think I got at least a quarter pound of brisket in my side of pinto beans today! Best pinto beans I've ever had, even without today's unusual amount of beef mixed in.

Went to Panther City BBQ in Ft. Worth today. They ranked 10 on the list. Tried the brisket, ribs, garlic beef sausage, the smoked bologna, creamed corn, beans, collard greens, coleslaw, and pecan pie bread pudding.

The brisket was good but extremely fatty. They advertise using black angus. I'm not sure if they're typically more fatty than other breeds or if I just had a particularly fatty slice. Too much for me. The bark was great though. The ribs were good. Not as good as Interstellar though. Garlic beef sausage reminded me of my Czech family's sausage, I wasn't really a fan. I shouldn't of bothered with the bologna but they were out of the pork belly burnt ends. The sides were great though. I was very surprised to find myself liking the collard greens the best. Never really liked them before but they were phenomenal. The pecan pie bread pudding was also amazing.

Went back to Panther City BBQ last weekend and managed to get the pork belly burnt ends, and some of the brisket tacos. Both were phenomenal. Also tried the chopped brisket and it was a much better experience than the super fatty sliced brisket that I had the previous time. Not sure if this chopped brisket was less fatty or if it was just better since it was all mixed up with bark and fat but it was amazing. I'd love to go back when we play basketball against UTA in Ft Worth, but I suppose I need to try out Goldees since they're #1 on the list.
