Soccer Back Home to Take on Texas Southern
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The final non-conference home match of the season takes place Thursday night from the Bobcat Soccer Complex when Texas State (3-3-0) takes on Texas Southern (0-6-0). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Admission to the match is free. A video stream won’t be available but fans can listen on KTSW 89.9 FM and follow along on live stats.
About Texas State
The Bobcats snapped a three-match losing streak on Sunday with a 3-1 victory at Houston Christian. In the contest, TXST was credited with six assists to set a new program record for a true road match and is tied for the fourth most in program history overall.
Olivia Wright netted her second goal of the season on Sunday to tie Zoe Junior for the team lead with two. Five Bobcats now have a team-high two assists. A team-high 15 shots and six shots on frame have been taken by Alexis Neal.
In goal, Katelyn Chrisman has made four starts and comes into Thursday with a 2.05 GAA with 23 saves and a .742 save percentage. Caitlyn Draper has appeared in three contests and made on start. Both she and Beth Agee have recorded a save on the year.
About Texas Southern
The Tigers enter having lost seven consecutive matches dating back to last season. They are winless in their last 15 non-conference contests (0-14-1) with the last win coming at Texas A&M International by a score of 1-0 on Sept. 17, 2021.
Hajar Benjoud leads TSU with four goals, 16 shots and eight shots on goal. All four of her tallies came against Rice and St. Mary’s (TX). Also finding the back of the net once has been Rayal Henderson. The lone assist for the Tigers belongs to Isabella Dillow, which came this past Sunday at Nicholls.
Starting five matches in goal has been Alessandra Bastidas. She sports a 2.82 GAA with 29 saves and a .744 save percentage. Making three appearances and starting once is Jaidyn Christophe. The graduate student has allowed seven goals for a 4.26 GAA and stopped 16 shots.
All-Time vs. Tigers
Both of the previous two meetings have gone in Texas State’s favor. The last meeting was on Sept. 21, 2012 in San Marcos and ended 6-0 that saw Tori Hale net a brace. The first matchup came in El Paso on Aug. 29, 2004. That match ended with the Bobcats setting a program record for goals in a contest in the 13-0 victory. Eight TXST players scored that day including four from Natalie Holder to tie the team’s single-match record.
