Game Day Experience

I remember back in the Southland FCS days, we used to have night games early in the season (I think mainly to avoid extreme heat) and then most conference games were around 2-3pm kicks so that most teams could travel home the same day (most conference schools were in TX and LA).

Since FBS, I think we try for night games, but as stated above, TV sometimes changes that.

I saw something on Twitter when this came out, don't remember who posted it, but they made a good point about the excessive rules put in place. It's the same point I've been making for a few years. You can't impose the type of rules they have and wonder why people don't want to show up and set up their own tailgate.

When you only have 3 hours or so to actually tailgate, it makes it hard to justify bringing your whole set up. That's what created the requests for tailgates by the athletic department and the reason people don't just set up anywhere. Most lots within walking distance restrict tailgating and the ones that allow it don't open until 6 hours before kick off.

Wait in line to get into the lot for 30 minutes to an hour, get set up as fast as possible which takes another 30 minutes to an hour, then have to start putting up about an hour to an hour and a half before kickoff to make the game. That only gives you 3 hours to actually tailgate.
Especially hard to justify when most who would be setting up a tailgate would not be coming from San Marcos. Most are Austin, SA and Houston.

To be completely fair, it hasn't effected me personally as much because I have lot 3 passes and they let you in the night before and as early as you want on game day for the donor lots. However, it's easy to see why tailgating has suffered in recent years.

I would love more night games. That's definitely something that Teis would have to push for. He would still get overruled by the Sun Belt and ESPN in most situations, but I doubt we make any objections right now. Might be different if he objected to it every time they schedule a 3pm game time.
Yep--it always comes back to having an AD with some cajones...or at least one who is willing to be the squeakiest wheel.

I got an update on tailgating. See the updated map below. RV lot will be in the historical location AND the new Tailgate Central lot.

The east side will be the new tailgating area. Are we allowed to park there? Kinda sad to see the west side go mostly to donors. But at least something is being done. Are there any plans to make certain spots available for reservations by the game?

I haven't heard anything about reserved spots. I think it will continue to be a first come first serve type of deal. The East lot will also house all the big tailgates too, such as the alumni tent, T-association, etc.

All they did was switch the East and West lots from last year.

OK. All they did was switch lots. When do season ticket holders get to hear more about the “committee” plans. The heralded change that actually helps make a game day experience

Ken said they will be putting out information and updating the tailgating site soon. I don't have a date or time. Sorry...

Another thing I noticed on this new map, the kid zone is still in the same location and there's no mention of the beer garden. I know the original info that we received was that the beer garden might not get implemented until later in the year. I hope they didn't have to scrap it all together. I thought that was one of the coolest additions.

I won’t lie, adding a beer garden will get me thinking about full-season tickets rather than half.
Speaking of season tickets. Isn't about time for them to go out? And, ThatBobcat, go for it. I complain about our Bobcats but I do enjoy being in San Marcos and going to the games.

Last time I spoke with the ticket office, they made it sound like season tickets would be sent out in mid August. So, probably another couple weeks.

Last time the Season Ticket office called me to renew, I told them even with Spavital being hired, I'm not renewing tickets or donations until Teis is gone and the tailgate situation gets fixed. They told me tailgating was being reviewed but I didn't get an answer if they're going to actually implement any of the proposed changes or not. It sounds like we still don't really know. After so many years of getting burned by the bums in the Athletic Department, I've just become pessimistic that they'll actually make meaningful changes.

That's a great look with the championships. Although the ordering of the years seems a bit confusing.

A small thing that has bugged me is the old high-school looking scoreboards on the facades. We really oughta take those down, have the facade be entirely ribbon boards and incorporate score, clock, down, distance, etc. into the video boards. Just my $0.02.

Make sure we remember Withers was the one complaining about this last August. Why our championships weren't posted... everywhere. Even for him... that was 2 years later than we he started. I don't care if they posted them in backward order... at least we have them posted!

There HAS been success here before.

At first glance, I thought the same thing. Go back and look at it again. The years list from oldest to most recent from the center out. Viewed that way, it makes a bit more sense.

Yeah, odd years on the left, even years on the right. It goes outside in so it can be added to without having to redo it . If i'm being honest, a little presumptuous.
