SBC Bowl season…

James Madison goes down, but Georgia State is up big, so now the SBC will be 2-7 in Bowl appearances.

Barring a miracle, South Alabama woodshedding Eastern Michigan. Which means the SBC moves to 3-7 in bowl games, but more importantly for TXST…Kinne picks up a win vs a team with a winning record.

Sad to see, for South Alabama, so many empty seats at a bowl game at home.
I really hope we show the rest of the Sun Belt how to show up to a bowl game.

Looks like we will have the lower bowl sold out and maybe 1/3 to 1/2 the upper bowl. But sounds like fans have been buying the home side too. I think it'll be pretty good crowd for being in DFW and students aren't free.

Too late now, but we should've started, or gotten the word to the university to start a fundraiser to purchase tickets for students. They are already doing the bus shuttle option.

For the most part, students have been really apathetic about the team. About the only ones who have said they were going where the ones living in Dallas who went home for the holidays.

Toledo vs Wyoming is the only G5 vs G5 bowl game left and ISU vs Memphis…in Memphis is the only G5 vs P5 bowl game left outside of NY6 Liberty.
Without skimming through all couple dozen games played so far it looks like we have the highest attendance among G5 vs G5 matchups not playing a service academy. (6th overall of bowl games featuring G5 team assuming the ducks still travel to Tempe despite coming up short on playoff).

Counted I think 13 G5 vs G5 games for a total of 21 bowl games with a G5 team in it.

35,849 Tulane vs VT
32,780 Boise vs UC Los Angeles…in LA
30K AFA vs JMU
28,521 BGSU vs Minnesota
26,542 TXST vs Rice
26,478 UNLV vs KU
20,926 EMU vs USA…in Mobile
20,711 USF vs Syracuse
20,023 Troy vs Duke
16,238 SMU vs Boston College…in Boston

14,485 UL vs Jax in climate controlled NFL stadium

Also of note, this game would rank a close 8th all time in BCS attendance (yes, I'm including a neutral site because it's not like we were playing at the opposing team's home stadium to bolster attendance by their home fans).

Would also rank 3rd in attendance of any game TXST played in this 2023 season. TBF I was in McClane stadium and it really did not feel like even 26,542 butts were in seats (even provided the stadium is a pretty decent size) so there's that. The 2nd deck was extremely empty. And there was definitely more butts in seats for FRB than when Baylor came to BCS in 2021. IMO would probably rank close to the Navy game in terms of actual butts in seats.

To be fair, Memphis played a home game.
You obviously haven’t come across Memphis fans on the SBCbbs site where they have acknowledged that they’ve struggled with home attendance all season for a program that had P5 aspirations. 35K was their season high attendance and that was only against team that won a NY6 game last season.
